Narrative
At the beginning of my teenage years I started thinking about my future. I have learned that it will be hard work. Like the quote says, “There are no shortcuts to any place worth going.” Beverly Sills. In my family there are seven of us. I am the youngest and have probably had it the easiest. My parents have always been hard workers. My Dad has been out in the fields and also worked construction when he couldn’t find work. My mom used to work along with my Dad but lately she has been sick. Even though they have struggled they have always taken care of us. I have learned right and wrong from them. I hope I can make them proud one day. I have been thinking about my future and the goals I have set for myself.
First, my main goal is to finish high school. To do this, I have to get on pace by working harder in the classroom. My plan to get on pace involves staying after school to get extra help in the areas that I am struggling in such as Government and U.S. Also on Wednesdays I can come to E1 early and work on assignments that are late. Hopefully by doing this I will become closer to my goal of graduating high school. The second goal I set for myself is getting a job after graduation. I think this will be a good idea because I’m not sure about college yet. Working will be hard but I need to do it. I think I will get a job in a packing house. I can meet new people and make money at the same time.
In reaching any goal I have set for myself there will be obstacles. The number one obstacle that stands between my goals and I, is my trouble with reading and writing. Because I am a second language english learner It has been hard for me at times because I get confused between English words with Spanish words. I try to use English more then I use Spanish while I’m at school. Practicing here at school will help because at home I only speak Spanish to my family. Getting help with reading like taking English with Mr. Arroyo and doing online reading programs can improve my reading.
My greatest fear is starting something and not finishing it weather it is college or a new job. I want to continue my education but college scares me. I think it will be to hard for me so that makes me not want to go. Looking for a job will also be hard work, maybe I will look into the military. Joining the military will teach me a trade and discipline. I might find out that I’m good at something I never knew I was good at. I guess you can say that what really scares me is changes in my life.
Hard work is going to get me where I need to go. My future will be good, I will make my family proud. They showed me that you have to never give up and work hard to better your life. My sister has been my role model and I will try to be like her. Giving up is never good and trying your best will always make you better. No matter what I decide to do in my life, I know that my family will always stand by me and support my decisions.
